Chiang Mai was the ' wildest ' to celebrate Songkran in Thailand . The festival will open with a unique ceremony and procession around the city of Chiang Mau . Visitors and local people will be spraying water on Buddha statues and also those who are older , then see cultural performances and play water fight until night long.

Old City Songkran Festival , Ayutthaya

This year , Songkran festival in the ancient city of Ayutthaya will be held in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthhaya , and focuses on an ancient tradition . Uniquely, the water wars between citizens currently in Ayutthaya Songkran will be celebrated by elephants spraying water on visitors .
